The RTPI is the professional body for town planners. Our members are employed in a range of planning roles, across both the public and private sectors, in the UK and overseas. Under the provision of its Royal Charter and Byelaws, the RTPI exists to advance the art and science of town planning. This means that the RTPI is at the cutting edge of research, policy formation, and practice advice for town and spatial planning, as well as overseeing academic and professional qualifications for town planners and promoting planning as a career choice.
In England (with the exception of London) the RTPI also oversees the operation of Planning Aid, a charity which provides free, independent and professional advice and support to individuals and communities who cannot afford to engage a planning consultant.
