The North York Moors National Park is rich in cultural heritage and contains over 12,000 historic monuments. The National Park Education Service provides activities and resources to help groups of all ages and abilities experience, understand and enjoy this special place.

Life in a Victorian Village

A practical 'hands on' history activity for KS2 school groups that makes use of a remarkable collection of historical documents held in the village hall at Levisham, a beautiful village in the North York Moors. Children explore the village and use a variety of original documents including maps, tithe schedules, census records and photographs to discover what the community was like in the mid 19th century and who lived there.

The Tudors at Danby Castle

Guided walk and visit to Danby Castle for KS2 school groups. Explore the remains of Danby Castle, once home to Catherine Parr, sixth wife of Henry VIII. Discover what life might have been like 400 years ago and dress in period costume.

Tudor Portraits

Following a guided walk and visit to Danby Castle, once home to Catherine Parr, children enjoy an afternoon of art and are introduced to Tudor portraits and Tudor painting techniques. If time permits children may also be able to try 'pouncing' and /or making carbon copies of Tudor faces.
