Teesside Archives collects and preserves archive material from churches, official and private sources in the areas served by the councils of Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton on Tees.
We are able to offer a postal search service for members of the public who are unable to visit the department in person. The staff employed at Teesside Archives are familiar with the records available and so are able to offer an expert search service. The fee is £20.00 per hour but half hour searches at the cost of £10.00 will also be undertaken.
Many family and local historians at some point in their research have problems with either old handwriting which is difficult to understand, or with Latin which was in common use until the eighteenth century. We are able to offer help to members of the public with deciphering old handwriting and with translating Latin documents into English. Details of fees payable are available on request.
