Gallery On The Move

Gallery on the Move has received Awards for All funding together with sponsorship from Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, Shropshire Partnership and South Shropshire District Council, to run a project entitled 'Cry Freedom' in two schools in Shropshire. Pupils have visited Liverpool Maritime Museum's excellent exhibition on slavery, had a tour of the docklands with a history of slavery with Eric Lynch. They have researched the subject on the internet and in books. They have had a visit from the County's Museum on the Move Bus which is showing an exhibition on slavery. Following this, pupils have worked with ACE Dance team from Birmingham to put together their own performance with expresses their feelings about slavery. Other pupils have worked with Olugbala Kokumo and Jahman Sillah to create an African drumming performance. The final performance which will include poetry and art, will be held at 15.30 on Fri 23 November at Coleham School in Shrewsbury before an audience of families, friends and community. They will also share their own Caribbean cooking. On the following day a dance workshop will be offered to the community of Craven Arms free of charge.
