Euroart's Open Studios 2014

  • 6 — 8 June 2014

Opening Night: Friday 6 June: 6pm - 10pm
Opening Times: Saturday 7 June: 2pm - 6pm / Sunday 8 June: 2pm - 6pm

Tottenham has been receiving a lot of attention of late. Further fuelled by the recent riots, the area is the focus of ambitious regeneration plans. Artists have also historically led regeneration as they move in to areas with cheaper rents and this too can be observed: Increasingly priced out of Dalston and Shoreditch down the road, creative types are moving in thick and fast. Meanwhile, London College of Fashion students saunter the streets due to the local Halls of Residence, whilst Central Saint Martins just a few stops down the Victoria line makes it an increasingly attractive base for artists and students in general. And then of course there’s Tottenham’s acknowledged musical pedigree: home to a raft of urban and grime musicians and a certain singer called Adele. In short, the area is a hot-bed of creative talent – something acknowledged by the V&A recently with their ‘Tottenham Takeover’ evening.

‘Euroart Studios’ - North London’s largest artist-led (and not for profit) studios both reflects and contributes to this creative backdrop. From fine artists to fashion designers; film-makers to architects, the building’s 70 studio’s buzz with an eclectic and exciting range of work. Notable residents include Lorraine Clarke who (along with her partner Nigel Young) has run the studios since founding them in 2002 and whose fabulous studio showcases her curious anthropological works. The SFX works of Nigel Booth (responsible for the prosthetics and models of numerous films) and the paintings of Matt Small (a prominent figure in the urban art scene) are also big draws - amongst many, many others.

The Open Studios weekend promises visitors the chance to meet such established, as well as up and coming, artists. With a silent auction and art raffle (offering the chance to win a £250 voucher that can be put towards purchasing any artists’ works) also planned, visitors may well find themselves walking away with something original and unique. Meanwhile, a twinning collaboration with the studio.ra gallery in Rome will offer visitors exposure to the work of International artists in addition to that of the locals.

Ultimately, the weekend will be a rewarding and invaluable opportunity for visitors to catch both an area and its artists with a very exciting future ahead.
