Leicester Print Workshop has a passion for printmaking.

We promote, sustain and advance fine art printmaking as a contemporary visual art form; as a craft; as a focus for exhibitions and commissions; in schools, with community groups, to artists and to the general public.

We make a creative impression and a meaningful contribution to visual arts in the Midlands.

Leicester Print Workshop was first established in 1986 and became a registered charity in 1993. They are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).

Lithography Weekend

Learn more about stone and plate lithography on this weekend course,

+Over the weekend you will experience creating lithographs from stone and plate
+Draw and help to produce a collaborative editioned print from stone
+Learn the technique of photo-plate lithography and print both photographic and hand drawn images.

Cut up and collage photo litho

  • 9 July 2016 10am-5pm

This aim of this experimental day course is to explore colour and composition and expand the boundaries of photo plate lithography.

Kate the tutor says “Don’t come with any pre-conceived ideas, just make some marks, and see what happens!” Starting the day with spontaneous mark-making exercises on drafting film and tracing paper, we will then expose drawings onto photo-litho plates.

These plates will then be cut up, re-arranged, inked up in colour and printed, to create colourful, collaborative, multi-layered collage prints. We will also experiment with printing onto thin Japanese paper, in order to make collaging paper to apply to other prints.

Japanese Woodblock Printing

  • 15 — 17 July 2016

Japanese woodblock, or mokuhanga, is a printmaking technique that has a variety of beautiful effects, ranging from delicate washes of transparency, to bold vibrant colours. During this three day course, working with traditional tools, wood and paper, we will learn how to carve and print pictures and how to bring a new twist to old printmaking traditions.

Collagraphs

  • 28 — 29 August 2016 10am-4pm

This two day course, on Sunday and August Bank Holiday Monday brings artist Charles Shearer to Leicester to teach his collagraph technique.

You will create textured plates using a range of materials including carborundum grit, tape, glue, embossed papers and materials.

This experimental course will also include image transfer, registration and colour in addition to exploring tone and line. It is the perfect course for beginners or those wanting to develop skills or experiment with this versatile technique.

CMYK Screenprinting

  • 20 November 2016 10am-5pm

Newspapers reproduce colour photographic imagery by printing four colour layers (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) on top of each other.

You will learn how photographic imagery can be separated into four colour layers using Photoshop. You will then print your own full colour screen print on paper. An ideal next step for those with some screenprint experience.
