Leicester Print Workshop has a passion for printmaking.

They promote, sustain and advance fine art printmaking as a contemporary visual art form; as a craft; as a focus for exhibitions and commissions; in schools, with community groups, to artists and to the general public.

They make a creative impression and a meaningful contribution to visual arts in the Midlands.

Leicester Print Workshop was first established in 1986 and became a registered charity in 1993. They are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).

Introduction to Screenprint

  • 5 — 6 September 2015 10am-4pm

A two day course for those that want to learn screen printing onto paper. This weekend course introduces the main principles of the technique. You will learn how to transfer an image to a silkscreen and print onto paper, in addition to exploring layering, colour, registration and stencils. This course is ideal for beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills.

Printmaking Taster Evening Class

A short three week course over three Thursday evenings, introducing three popular techniques: Mono Screenprinting, Etching and Drypoint & Collage. Taking your time to learn each of the techniques, you will gain a good grounding in the basics of fine art printmaking.

Blind & Colour Embossing

A one day course that will see you creating images that literally stand out from the page. During the day you will explore embossing and debossing techniques to create prints and works on paper with three- dimensional surfaces.

Introduction to Textile Screenprinting

  • 19 — 20 September 2015 10am-4pm

This weekend course will provide an introduction to textile screenprinting. You will learn how to put your image onto a screen and print, experimenting with layering colours and imagery. You will be shown how to apply heat press techniques such as foiling, flocking and puff binder to embellish your designs and introduce different surfaces and textures to your printed fabric.

Making photographic images with solar plate etching

  • 4 October 2015 10am-4pm

Solar plate is a photo-etching process using photopolymer plates that are developed and ‘etched’ in water. Simpler than traditional photo-etching, the process captures very fine detail and can produce beautiful prints. Working with your own photographic imagery you will learn how to expose and develop the plates and then how to ink and print your own photo-etchings.

Man & Beast, Drypoint Engraving

  • 6 December 2015 10am-4pm

Drypoint engraving is a form of intaglio printmaking that sees the artist incising a line into a plate creating a burr that is then inked up and printed. Working with two different types of engraving plate, one aluminium the other a light plastic, you will make line drawings and overlay them to create images inspired by Elisabeth Frink’s wide body of work showing at Lakeside Arts Centre.

The Presence of Animals - Waterless Lithography

  • 21 February 2016 10am-4pm

Waterless lithography is a more straightforward process than stone lithography, but similarly it allows the artist to print from a hand drawn or hand painted line. In this workshop you will look at Elisabeth Frink’s animal sculptures and prints showing at Djanogly Gallery and then create personal responses to the subject using the expressive, immediate process of waterless lithography.

Printmaking, Text and Drawing - inspired by David Jones

  • 3 April 2016 10am-4pm

The beautiful ‘painted inscriptions’ by David Jones, showing at Djanogly Gallery are the inspiration for this workshop.

Using printmaking and drawing techniques we will play with shape, colour and texture to explore the design and layout of these texts.

Participants will then create their own inscription using either words they have personally selected or the texts and poems of David Jones.

Drypoint & Mixed Media Self Portraits inspired by David Jones

  • 1 May 2016 10am-4pm

Drypoint and mixed media combine in this course, which is particularly suited to people who have some drawing experience. Taking inspiration from the engravings for Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the self-portraits of David Jones, you will work with drypoint and mixed media, and use photos and items of personal memorabilia, to create an original self-portrait that depicts an important event in your life.
