The Adamsdown Museum

The Adamsdown Museum

13 January — 10 February 2012 *on now

The theme is Adamsdown - past, present and future. A call went out for people who lived, worked and studied in Adamsdown to contribute their own art work from photography, film or sculpture. Themed-workshops took place in two local schools (Tredegarville Church in Wales Primary and Adamsdown Primary), and contributions from the local Homework Club, knit and natter group, STAR camera club, and Adamsdown Arts Association members have resulted in a colourful range of pieces, created by all ages.

If you'd like more information about the Adamsdown Museum, Adamsdown Arts Association or the Adamsdown Communities First Project please contact 02920 460 899 or call into The Resource Centre, 10G Moira Terrace, Adamsdown, Cardiff.

Stories from Ely Hospital

Stories from Ely Hospital

16 January — 28 February 2012 *on now

The Ely Hospital Inquiry was published by the 1969. The inquiry was headed by Geoffrey Howe following terrible revelations of ill-treatment of patients by a whistle blower in the News of the World.

Now, over 40 years later, former residents mainly living in Cardiff are coming out to tell their stories about what life was like living or working in Ely Hospital. They are making their stories public through an exhibition at The Cardiff Story Museum from 16th January 2012

Cardiff People First, an organisation run by and for people with a learning disability, started the project in May 2011, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. They could see that people were still eager to talk about Ely Hospital and felt it was important that the voices of people with a learning disability were heard. Many people who lived and worked at Ely Hospital have now passed away and it was important to capture the memories of those who still talk about their lives at Ely Hospital.

During the exhibition we are running a programme of workshops including Learning Disability Awareness Sessions, and we will be joined by University Lecturers including Dr Colin Young of Cardiff University and Dr Robert Jenkins of University of Glamorgan. Mark Drakeford Assembly Member will be running a workshop on The Ely Hospital Inquiry of 1969.

For information about the exhibition and the associated workshops, please contact Cardiff People First on 029 2023 1555
