The SVR is a full-size standard-gauge railway line running regular steam-hauled passenger trains for the benefit of visitors and enthusiasts alike between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire, a distance of 16 miles.

The Severn Valley Railway was in the transport business as a through route for 101 years, from 1862 until 1963. The preservation of the SVR dates from 1965, when a group of railway enthusiasts formed the Severn Valley Railway Society at Kidderminster.

Our School Education Service provides advice and practical support for teachers and group leaders from a wide variety of educational and community organisations. Our Education Services Manager and Education Officer have backgrounds in primary and secondary education and a number of the staff who work with the service also come from the education sector.

In addition to the practical help we are able to give to school groups arranging a visit to the unspoiled Severn Valley we also organise a number of curriculum-based experiences, for a range of age groups, which further enhance a journey by heritage steam train.
