The Brooke is an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world's poorest communities.

The charity was officially founded in 1930 by Dorothy Brooke, in answer to the plight of war horses, left behind following WW1. Dorothy set up the Brooke Hospital for Animals in Cairo, Egypt, and rescued 5,000 war horses within its first two years.
