Manchester Wakes

  • 15 May 2015 6-9pm

Manchester Wakes launches Wonderland by The Waves - a new interactive exhibition of Manchester Central Library archives curated by postgraduates at The University of Manchester. The exhibition celebrates shared history and memories of local people and explores a variety of holiday traditions.

The exhibition launches in style on Friday 15th May with an after-hours ‘Wakes’ event curated by former Inspiral Carpets front-man, Tom Hingley. Wakes Week brought about the rise in popularity of seaside holidays in the UK, and this special event will present a unique evening of entertainment, featuring live music and spoken word from local musicians, community choirs, and a new commissioned electroacoustic soundscape performance from NOVARS innovators in sound, space and interactive art.

Tom Hingley is a musician, song writer, author and general popular culture 'smart arse', who has made Manchester his home for the past thirty years. As singer with Inspiral Carpets (1989-2011) he travelled the world with songs that are now football chants.

There are many ways to get involved with the exhibition - follow our Twitter or send us an e-mail to find out how.

And make sure you grab your ticket for this one-off, free event at Manchester Central Library!
