Z-arts was formed in 2000 as a ‘creative space for young people’ with a priority on providing participatory activity.
Our mission is to inspire and enable generations of young people from Manchester and beyond to use creativity to maximise their potential.
We do this by supporting an individual’s creative journey from their first steps in creative practice to being a practicing artist.
Here’s an example of the journey a person might take with us:
early years arts workshops,
after schools and holiday programmes across various artforms,
schools engagement work, creative curriculum support and linking days
vocational arts training such as mentoring, work placements, shadowing and observation
artists masterclasses
adult training and life-long learning
Venue Type:
Gallery, Artist studio or collective

‘Mini’ Mela Makers – Half term activity
In association with Manchester ‘Mega’ Mela, a celebration of South Asian Culture, Z-arts will be running a week of creative arts workshops based on South Asian folk tales. Come along and work with a storyteller to create your own modern folk tale, then bring to life the creatures you have created through illustration, ceramics and have a go at shadow puppetry!
Tuesday 10am-1pm Storytelling & Creative Writing
Wednesday 10am–1pm Illustration
Thursday 10am – 1pm Ceramics
Friday 10am – 1pm Shadow Puppets
Following on from half term, this year’s Mega Mela will be at Platt Fields Park on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July and the story and characters created during half term will form the basis for more exciting and curious creative arts and craft activities for all the family to join in with!

Word of Warning presents Double Bill: The Middle (Preview) | Rat Rose Bird
A foyer Hamlet in bubble wrap + a meditation on leaving and staying-put. Created for a space in neither one world nor the other and inspired by Hamlet, Michael Pinchbeck casts his own father in the lead and strands him between ‘to be’ and ‘not to be’ in an exploration of time passing, ageing and the relationship between father and son.
A poetic meditation on farewells, departures, long journeys and the hunt for a better life, Rat, Rose, Bird explores empire, colonialism, mortality and love. Perhaps there’s something to be learnt by invoking the past? Or perhaps it’s nothing more than a series of repetitions?
When
7-10pm
