Friends of Ludlow Museum

The Friends help to raise money to purchase items for the collections, provide support for events and exhibitions and are also a body of keen volunteers.

There is also a autumn/winter programme of events which include lectures by invited speakers and occasional trips to places of interest.

Their aim is to help to stimulate public interest in the heritage of Ludlow, encourage and assist with the preservation of the museum’s collection, and promote and assist with schemes to utilise the collections for the public’s education and enjoyment.

The Changing Landscape (Brian Hatton Centenary)

  • 19 September 2016 7-9pm

A talk by Robin Thorndyke on the Herefordshire painter Brian Hatton. Brian was born in Hereford and as a young child he made remarkable drawings. At the age of eleven he was awarded the ‘Gold Star’ by the Royal Drawing Society. As a young man, he travelled at home and abroad and in 1908, he travelled to Egypt as part of the Petrie expedition. He continued to love Herefordshire, where his work was inspired by local people and places. On his travels and later as a soldier, he recorded the people and places around him. During his life, he created over 1000 art works.
