Powerstock Parish First World War Memorial.
- 9 June 2017 9:45am-6:30pm
This Study Period is designed for those who pause for thought each Remembrance Sunday, realising that most of those whose names appear on town and village war memorials are unknown within their community today.
To mark the First World War Centenary, the parish of Powerstock called for volunteers to research each name on their memorial. The result was a self-published book A Dorset Parish Remembers. The following year, the same treatment was given to those lost in the Second World War.
This was a remarkable community effort. Christians Aware believe the 'how' and 'why' of this project would be of great interest to others. The keynote address will be given by the Bishop of Salisbury. Other speakers will include a trustee of the Memorials Trust on the subject Monuments and Memorials, and various contributors to A Dorset Parish Remembers.
Lunch and facilities are available in the Three Horseshoes Inn opposite the church. The day will conclude with ecumenical Communion (17.30-18.30) followed by a pub social. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments to the pub social after the event.
