Steam locomotive "Stanhope"

The Trust currently operates the Apedale Valley Light Railway and is constructing a new museum to display its collection of industrial narrow gauge equipment.

Much of this has been gathered from various industries around the UK in the last 40 years, and in doing so we aim to educate and entertain both the general public and the railway enthusiast.

An important aspect is that it should be a working museum, not simply a collection of static exhibits.

Tracks to the Trenches - 2014

  • 12 — 14 September 2014

We are organising an event of what we hope will be of National/International importance, hosted at our site over a long weekend of 12-14th September 2014. This will commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War - with a specific aim to raise the profile of battlefield logistics.

Our museum includes a large amount of railway equipment that was built to serve the logistics in France during WW1 & sustain the Trenches - bridging the gap between the mainline railways and the frontline trenches.

We are hoping to provide an unrivalled display of railway, road vehicles, troops (living history) and First World War themed model railway exhibition over the weekend.

The event now has a dedicated website (www.ww1-event.org) which details a lot of the preparation and projects that we are currently engaged in.
We are interested to hear from potential visitors, sponsors, exhibitors & traders alike!
