Our group include the men and women from all corners of the empire who came to the aid of the motherland in its hour of need. We use our own animals to remind the public of our friends from overseas and the use of the animals during the war. Our shows and displays include skill at arms,and shows of the sorts of training involved in getting the animals ready for war on the front.

Chalke Valley History Festival

We return to Chalke Valley to present our Remount display and Cavalry of the Empire Show. Skinner’s Horse is proud to raise awareness of the Indian and other Commonwealth cavalry on the Western Front, the role of the horse in the conflict and also to show how women did their bit for the war effort with the training of horses for the front. This event takes place at Chalke Pyt Farm, Broad Chalke, Wiltshire.

Meet a small group from Skinners Horse who will be commemratimg the role of horses and mules during the First World War along the riverside at this major event in the centre of Bedford. This event takes place in Bedford City Centre.

From the Sea to the Somme

  • 14 — 25 August 2014

A event with up to 20 animals and riders in period correct uniform and tack. Taking in sites of interest along the main corridor of the western front 1914-18 camping in fields and woods we will be raising money for the Royal British Legion and the Blue Cross animal charity.

This will be appox 200Kms in length and take about 10 days to complete. Riders will be engaging with locals and visitors to the area to talk about the use of horses and mules during the war.

Women of the remount depot

The Romsey Show and Cavalry of the Empire

Meet the full turn-out of our group, including our ladies demonstrating how the ladies of the Remount depots helped in the training and supply of Horses and Mules for the British army during the Great War. Also our gentlemen will be representing those members of the empire who came to the mother countries aid. This event takes place at Romsey Show Ground, SO51 9LQ.
