Weetwood Hall has been owned by the University of Leeds since the 1920s; initially operating as a hall of residence and then re-developed into a conference centre from 1992. The business objectives expected of Weetwood Hall by the university are to provide a year round facility to support the provision by the university of continuing professional education and to provide to the university by the form of gift aid an annual financial contribution.

In 2012 a new business concept was developed under the umbrella of "Inspirational Conventions & Events" which the World War One, In Retrospect Conference in 2014 forms part of.
