Rights Remix is a special screening event held in partnership with Collecting Birmingham, featuring newly digitised films from our archive of grassroots, independent and campaign video produced by TURC Video and partner organisations in Birmingham. Spanning three decades, the archive uncovers a fascinating history of workers campaigns.
The screening includes campaign films made for the NALGO led Anti-Deportation Campaign in the West Midlands, and highlights the tireless work of veteran Birmingham activist and campaigner Muhammad Idrish.
We are delighted to include a rare opportunity to view these films as part of the final exhibition of the Collecting Birmingham project, an innovative acquisitions and engagement project which has captured people’s lived experiences, achievements, their struggles. Focusing on stories of people from Aston, Soho, Nechells and Ladywood, the exhibition features new collections that reflect the experiences of diverse Birmingham people – from working lives, to community activists and protest movements. By situating selections from our archive within it, we hope to engage a new generation with histories that have been written-out of the popular historical narrative.
There will also be a chance to join the UNISON Singers for a song or two.
Free event, limited seating. held in the 'Your Birmingham Gallery', BMAG.
