"Keep the Paint Moving": David Bomberg and the Art of Radical Teaching

  • 22 April — 2 July 2016 *on now

Whilst at Borough Polytechnic, Bomberg forged a path as a radical teacher, who ignored stylistic convention, curriculums and examinations in favour of an approach that allowed artists to find their own individual vision. In so doing, he carved a role for himself as an outsider, at the same time as becoming, and remaining, a lasting influence on a generation of artists. This exhibition examines Bomberg’s teaching practice in his own work and that of five artists who studied under him: Dennis Creffield, Cliff Holden, Edna Mann, Dorothy Mead and Miles Richmond, plus a rich array of archive material and accounts.
