Located in the heart of the dynamic gallery district of London’s Fitzrovia, Rosenfeld Porcini opened with the express intention of presenting a strong international programme. Our exhibition ‘Memory’ featuring 9 sculptors from 6 nations recently travelled to PAN Museum, Naples and in 2011 we staged a solo exhibition of American artist Leonardo Drew at our partner gallery Galleria Napolinobillisima. Our recent themed exhibition ‘The Continuation of Romance’ was devoted to contemporary painting and underlied a contextual basis to explore our firm curatorial belief in the continuity that underlies the story of art.

Around Drawing

  • 26 March — 22 May 2015 *on now

The exhibition intends to feature both artists who clearly use traditional drawing methods to forge their artistic language, and artists –who although not traditional draughtsman, have produced works which can be closely related to a vision of what does, in fact, constitute a drawing. Around Drawing is rosenfeld porcini’s fifth themed exhibition, following WOOD, which grouped four artists who all sculpt with wood, yet use the medium in diverse ways, both technically and from a narrative point of view.

The hope with this exhibition is to present very different practices and demonstrate that it is not always necessary to be wildly conceptual or to select strange ‘never previously used’ materials in order to be original, but rather to tackle head on traditional mediums as to make them relevant to our contemporary age.

ECM | CD Launch Concert Giovanni Guidi Trio: This is the Day

  • 2 April 2015 7:30-9:30pm

This Is The Day is Giovanni Guidi’s second album as a leader for ECM, following on from the 2012 recording City of Broken Dreams. The young Italian pianist (b.1985, Foligno) was launched on the international stage in the groups of Enrico Rava. After being struck by the concentrated, impassioned qualities of the young pianist’s playing during the summer courses of Siena Jazz, Rava invited him into his band, and has since recorded with him on the ECM albums Tribe (with the Rava quintet) and On The Dance Floor, a live album with the Parco della Musica Jazz Lab in Rome.

This Is The Day again features Guidi’s international trio, with US bassist Thomas Morgan and Portuguese drummer João Lobo. Morgan recorded for the first time on ECM with guitarist John Abercrombie in 2008 on Wait Till You See Her and has since participated in albums of strikingly diverse character. Morgan’s style, melodic and essential, characterized by the fullness of touch, has been likened to that of Charlie Haden.

João Lobo came out from the school of the Hot Club de Portugal in Lisbon before moving to The Hague. Like Giovanni Guidi, he played with Enrico Rava in 2002 at Siena Jazz and the Guido-Lobo association has been firm since.

This Is The Day was recorded in the Auditorium Stelio Moro of the Swiss Radio and Television, in Lugano, in April 2014 and produced by Manfred Eicher. Artwork on the front cover of the record is by rosenfeld porcini gallery artist Emmanuel Barcilon.
