Viscosity Printing: Short Course

  • 18 September 2015 10am-1pm

This is a great way to make a multi coloured print from a single plate rather than relying on several plates for colour seperation. The technique incorporates the principles of relief and intaglio printmaking using different viscosities of ink, which resist or attract each other when rolled onto a plate. This enables colours to be layered and inked up at the same time. During the course you will be shown how to manipulate inks, apply the ink to a plate and print using a press.

Admission

£38.00 (£34.20 for members)

Solar Plate for Relief Printmaking

  • 19 September 2015 10am-5pm

Solarplate (also known as photopolymer plate) is a steel plate coated with a light sensitive polymer layer.  The plates are exposed to UV light and washed out in water and can provide a printing plate which is extremely versatile and hard wearing.  Images printed from the plates can be used as an alternativeor in conjunction with traditional relief printing methods such as embossing, lino, letterpress and collagraph.

Soft Ground Etching

  • 7 November 2015 10am-5pm

Soft ground is a wax that is applied to a metal plate and stays soft but can resist acid. Plates are covered in the ground and dipped in acid etching the metal. Prints taken from soft ground plates can eminate from pencil lines, pastel marks and fine imprints taken from textured objects pressed against the plate. This is a great technique for people who enjoy drawing and mark-making and full instruction will be given from preparing the plate to printing.
