Real Painting

  • 12 June — 2 August 2015 *on now

Castlefield Gallery is delighted to present Real Painting, an exhibition of new and existing work by ten artists working nationally and internationally including Turner Prize nominee Angela de la Cruz, and John Moores Painting Prize winner’s Simon Callery and Alexis Harding. Curated by Deb Covell and Jo McGonigal the exhibition emphasizes the essential grammar of painting, considering not necessarily what a painting means but what it ‘does’.

TALK: Craig Staff

  • 11 July 2015 12-1pm

To coincide with the exhibition Real Painting, Castlefield Gallery is delighted to welcome Craig Staff, author of After Modernist Painting: The History of a Contemporary Practice (2013), to offer his response to the exhibition, considering it in relation to painting’s histories, theories and philosophies. From connections with the Renaissance and modernism, he will venture towards the means by which we might begin to think about, if not understand the works that make up Real Painting.
Plus meet the curators and see the exhibition from 11am.
