Force Crag Mine Open Day

With an air of the "Wild West" Force Crag was the last mineral mine to be worked in the Lake District.

Join a guided tour to explore the processing mill and other remains revealing the history of mining at Force Crag.

Please bring Stout foot wear, warm and waterproof clothing and refreshments. At the mine the tour takes place partly outside on rough ground and involves a walk up hill. There are steep narrow steps within the building. Not suitable for children under the age of ten. All youngsters to be accompanied by an adult.

Mountain Festival Tree Climbing

  • 17 — 18 May 2014 11am-3:30pm

It's the biggest festival of its kind and gives families the chance to take part in outdoor activities such as climbing a tree the size of a three-storey building. Meet the professionals and limber up to scale new heights with the National Trust forestry team. Using a rope and harness support, how far you go will be up to you, but the view from the top will be incredible. You will be able to see the whole of the adventure village as well as Derwentwater and Catbells.

Keswick Mountain Festival

If spectacular views and adventure are your ideas for a good day out then the Keswick Mountain Festival is a date for your diary. It's the biggest festival of its kind and amongst other things it gives families the chance to take part in outdoor activities from the list of 50 Thing to do before you are 11 3/4. Why not climb a tree, try your hand at den building or make a mud pie. Then see how good you are at finding your way with a map and compass.

Derwen Water Family Adventure Trail

Within easy walking distance you will find the shores of Derwent Water with spectacular views of the surrounding fells. Change the pace of life as you follow the trail through the woods and beside the lake. Now's your chance to skim a stone or climb a tree; why not build a den or try creating your own wild art. This trail offers you a selection of the 50 Things to do before you're 11 3/4.

Kayaking

Derwent Water Regatta 2014

  • 9 — 10 August 2014 11am-4pm

Spectators can watch the antics on the lake from Crow Park whilst enjoying a traditional summer fair with rides, side stalls, refreshments and competitions. There will also be a chance to take part in some of the 50 Thing to do before you are 11 3/4, such as jumping over waves, making mud pies, stone skimming or even canoeing down a river.
