Trent to Trenches: It's A Long Way to Tipperary: Ireland and World War One

Thousands of Irish men fought in the British Army in the First World War, but then found themselves on the 'wrong' side when the fight for Irish Independence broke out in Easter 1916.

Deirdre O'Byrne, who teaches Irish literature at Loughborough University, will lead a discussion on how these divided loyalties are represented in literature, by writers including W B Yeats, Frank McGuinness, Patrick MacGill and Sebastian Barry.
