Exhibition: The Sensorial Object

  • 1 August — 5 September 2015 *on now

An exhibition curated by Dr Natasha Mayo and Zoe Preece on behalf of the Makers Guild in Wales and was first shown at Craft in the Bay Cardiff earlier this year. It is an exploration of the sense experience through the material object, and brings together a collection of artists whose work, in various intriguing and beautiful ways, explores this. Featured artists include Anne Gibbs, Ainsley Hillard, Emma Rawson, Zoe Preece, Ingrid Murphy and Jon Pigott. In Oriel Fach, Vivienne Albiston has created an installation of Raku and smoke fired spheres of varying sizes inspired by Magellans seaward journey around the globe. Each sphere can be moved, by the gallery’s visitors to allow the narrative of this installation to change as time passes. Also the exhibition by James Devine of photographs of microscopic images of rocks continues for this month.

Artist's Talking: The Sensorial Object

  • 5 September 2015 2:30-4pm

An exhibition curated by Dr Natasha Mayo and Zoe Preece on behalf of the Makers Guild in Wales and was first shown at Craft in the Bay Cardiff earlier this year. It is an exploration of the sense experience through the material object, and brings together a collection of artists whose work, in various intriguing and beautiful ways, explores this.
The bringing together of new digital technologies with the long established traditions of ceramics, textiles and glass, was to further push the boundaries of this idea within the applied art object, testing out the ability of materiality to both trigger and illuminate sensory connection from sight, sound, touch, smell and even taste. On Sat Sept 5 some of the artists will talk about this fascinating show from 2.30 pm...
