We are situated in the historic market town of Clitheroe in the heart of the Ribble Valley and run by Ribble Valley Borough Council. We specialise in contemporary craft by local and national makers.
The gallery was awarded an Arts Lottery Grant in 2001 and the old station building was totally refurbished to provide an airy contemporary craft exhibition space, shop and education facilities.
The Platform Gallery hosts up to eight exhibitions per year, including solo, group and themed shows. The craft shop sells a large selection of jewellery, glass, ceramics, textiles and wood.

Creativity Within The Beauty
- 24 January — 11 April 2015 *on now
The arts and crafts within and around The Forest of Bowland are as unique, diverse and beautiful as the wildlife, landscape, habitats and eco-systems, which the Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) represents and cares for. 2014 saw the 50th Anniversary of The Forest Of Bowland being designated as an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing us with the inspiration for this unique opportunity to showcase the artistic talent found within and inspired by this stunning landscape.
Black Sheep – The Dark Side of Felt
- 25 July — 3 October 2015
Felt is the most ancient constructed textile in the world and in its long and fascinating history it has been used for everything from military armour to housing, from cosy winter garments to conceptual art.
This exhibition is an exploration of the edgier side of this extraordinary and versatile material, looking at artists who create sometimes disturbing and bizarre oddities and technically brilliant objects. A touring exhibition from The National Centre for Craft and Design.
- 11 — 28 September 2015
Etcetera is a group composed of seven nationally and internationally exhibited quilt and embroidery artists based in the North West of England. They came together to support each other in pushing the boundaries of their art. ‘Transition’ is their first exhibition together. Their interpretation of the theme ranges from socio-political to the more physical explorations of how stitch transforms cloth.
- 17 October 2015 — 9 January 2016
A winter exhibition showcasing up to 80 UK based designer-makers providing a large selection of unique handmade products in the Platform Gallery. Providing the perfect venue for visitors and shoppers to treat and be treated.
