Mary King Paintings
Throughout July 2009 and the first week of August, The Lightbox in Woking will be hosting an exhibition of paintings by Mary King, who lived and worked in Ewell in Surrey for 45 years until her death in 2008.
In her journals, King referred to her own little part of the Surrey countryside – the back garden of her house in Ewell, a resource she drew on time and time again – as a sort of paradise, and it this reference, refracted through the journal of a poet she greatly admired, that provides the title of this exhibition.
