Somerset Film promotes the creative use of the moving image and digital media in rural communities across the county and region. We run the Engine Room community media centre in Bridgwater, offering a hub for creative film, video, radio and digital work subsidised and free resources and training, advice, information and a one stop shop for producers seeking crew, facilities, kit and support in the region.

Scriptwriting Competition!

The Prize: The winning script selected by our judging panel will receive Best Short Script Laurels and will be considered for
production by Somerset Film in the summer 2015 and inclusion on the Reel Somerset DVD, which is distributed to over 150
film societies and not-for-profit screening organisations in the South West.

Terms & Conditions:

Before submitting your screenplay, please be sure it meets the following requirements and that you accept the conditions:

1. All entries should be in English and be max. ten pages in the industry standard
format, not including the title page. (If you are new to film writing and do not know the format there are many free script writing programs on line including Celtx). Please include a logline on the title page.

2. Writers must be based in Somerset.

3. All scripts must be original screenplays, for which the applicant(s) hold the copyright. Where the screenplay is based on
another piece of work it is the responsibility of the screenplay writer to obtain written permission/copyright clearances from the original author or publisher.

4. The winning screenwriter may be asked to work in partnership (online if needs be)
with the producer, script editor and/or director with regard to possible changes if the script is selected to be produced. 5. Download an entry form from our website and send with printed script (no staples or paperclips please) enclosing a cheque for £10 (admin fee) by 16 Jan 2015 to: The Engine Room, 52 High St, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 3BL – if you would like to e-mail your script then contact us on 01278 433187 for details.

Women into film

Women Into Film!

Women Into Film is a series of fun and creative workshops with the aim of providing useful skills and an insight into the world of film and media for women, an industry where they are vastly un-represented. We're kicking off with a one day film-making course, followed by digital photography - four further workshops will be shaped around the interests of those participating.

Participants will also get the chance to make an origional short film over a four-day production period.

To participate you must be aged 19+ and currently seeking employment or working less than 16 hours a week.

Thanks to support from the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency, we are able to offer these sessions for FREE. Participants can also access creche and travel support plus a light lunch and refreshments are provided for each of the workshops.

This is a great chance to gain some insight into media and media production!
