Lacock Abbey

Lacock Abbey is a house with over 800 years of history. Founded as an abbey in 1232, it has been a home to many different characters, each of whom has put their own unique stamp on the building.

Cloisters, grounds and Fox Talbot Museum are open all year round (not Christmas Day). Please contact property for times.

The abbey rooms are open everyday (apart from Tuesday) from February to end of October, open weekends only from November to end of January. Please contact property for times.

Adult £8.70, Child £4.30, Family £22.20 Museum, Abbey rooms, cloisters and grounds - Adult £11.80, Child £5.90, Family £30.10. NT members and under fives are free.

Getting there

Lacock is situated on the A350, halfway between Chippenham and Melksham. Follow the brown signs to the NT car park. Navigate to Hither Way.

The Theatre of Insects

29 September 2012 — 4 November 2013 *on now

Insects are juxtaposed with painted backgrounds, found objects and old photographs that echo their shape and form. A stick insect is perfectly paired with a spiky geometric plan and black and white spotted butterflies reflect the music score they hover above.

Flying takes place on the lawn. There is a level, gravelled path to the lawn from Visitor Reception.When resting, the birds are displayed in the abbey cloisters which has a ramped entrance.
Flying displays may be cancelled if weather is not suitable for the birds to fly in. This is sometimes decided on the day.

Bat Watch May 2013

Join bat expert Tony Brazier to watch for and listen to bats living in locations in and around Lacock Abbey. You will walk down to the abbey buildings (about a 5 minute walk) and see the bats appear from gargoyle mouths in a location next to the River Avon. A magical experience.
