Arlington Court is an impressive Regency house with a vast collections of artefacts from paintings to pewter and ships to shells. Set in grounds of 2700 acres with formal gardens, woodland and a lake it's a walkers paradise. The Carriage Museum holds over 50 pieces reflecting the human journey from the cradle to the grave. The estate is also home to a working stables which runs carriage rides during the main visitor season. The Outdoor team help to care for a wealth of animals including Shetland ponies, Jacob sheep and Red Devon cattle, as well as our colony of bats.

Museums at Night Victorian Dinner Party

For this special Museums at Night event in Barnstaple, meet our group of Victorian house servants preparing for a dinner party. See their preparations and learn more about life as a servant in the nineteenth century.

Arrive at the house and be announced by the footman, try your hand at polishing the silver, or laying the table. Talk to the servants to hear about their difficult lives.

Plus indulge in a Victorian meal inspired by recipes from our Victorian cookbook.

The house will be open for free flow from 6pm and the servants activities will be available. The house will close at 7pm when the meal will be served in the tea room. Only the ground floor is accessible.

See the beautiful pieces she has made from old duvet covers, curtains and clothes and take away the skills and inspiration on how to do this traditional craft. Join a tour to meet several characters, timings will be advertised on site.
