Opened to the public in March 2012, the M&S Company Archive is home to the Marks in Time exhibition, celebrating the role that M&S has played in people's lives for over 130 years. Featuring iconic items from M&S history, the exhibition vividly shows the impact M&S has had on the social history of Britain.

If you would like to delve even deeper into our history you can make use of our dedicated Research Area; look through our employee magazines dating back to the 1930s or get interactive with our online Store Histories and People Profiles. We also have a Children's Area with games and activities for kids of all ages.

The collection includes everything from films and clothing to household products and advertising material, and much much more in between. We have over 70,000 items from the company's history and we’re constantly adding to the collection, from puddings to pants it's all here!

On Your Marks Networking Series: The Evolution of Generation Y

  • 12 September 2014 11:45am-2pm

Join us for another fascinating insight into how business and higher education are working together with our ‘On Your Marks’ Networking Series, in partnership with the University of Leeds.

The Evolution of Generation Y: Why innovation is key to adapting to the future workplace

Jane Daly, Global Head of Learning & Development at Marks & Spencer

Professor Chris Clegg, Director of the Socio-Technical Centre (STC), Co-Director Rolls-Royce University Technology Partnership for Design

As a new generation of young people who have never experienced life without their computers or smartphones enter the workplace, organisations need to evolve to keep up. This tech-savvy generation brings new skills, expectations and fresh ideas but employers to balance their needs with those of the wider workforce. M&S Global Head of Learning & Development, Jane Daly, will talk about how ‘Generation Y’ opens up both new challenges and opportunities for businesses. Jane will discuss how M&S are responding to these challenges and why creativity, innovation and flexibility are the way to stay ahead and succeed in the workplace of the future.

The event will be hosted by Professor Chris Clegg. Chris heads up the Socio-Technical Centre, which aims to make the University of Leeds a leader in the field of socio-technical systems design. Chris will talk about how STC works with business to help change the way they work, from helping employers encourage their people to adopt pro-environmental, ‘green’ behaviours, to helping Rolls-Royce to design an office environment in which employees are helped to be more efficient.
