Den Building

Build a den in the same way as the first monks did, with branches and leaves - can you make it waterproof? A great family activity for a crisp spring day. We'll meet at Swanley Grange.

Discover Map Reading

Would you like to plan your own walks and step out with confidence? Aimed at beginners and novices join Mark Reid as you learn how to use a compass, understand an OS map, learn new outdoor skills, and stay safe on the hills. Course includes: full day's navigation skills at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, free entry onto the estate, tea / coffee in the morning, OS Map and compass for use during the course, course notes, and use of our Berghaus gear if required.

Adventure to Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks and Back

  • 24 August 2014 10am-1pm

Join us for a series of amazing skyrides that will take you through some fantastic scenery here at Fountains Abbey and around North Yorkshire. You don't have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you'll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in this 28 mile challenging ride suitable for ages 11+. Children aged under 15 will need an adult with them. The ride is free and led by a trained leader, so why not join us this summer to get on your bike!

Seen and Unseen - The Architecture of Fountains Abbey

Heritage Open Days 2014: Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

Join us at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal as we celebrate our rich history this year.

Come and strut your stuff in period costume, dabble in a few garden games with friends and family or seek out hidden follies on a trail of discovery. There'll also be some craft activities for you to get stuck in to, and families can have a romp around in our play area, build a den in our natural play area or try spotting some feathery friends in our bird hide. It's free entry all day - enjoy!

Wildlife Wander

Follow the various paths, including the Under the Bridges water trail, around the estate to discover the landscapes making up this World Heritage Site. An Abbey audio tour is also available.
