Brede Steam Engine Society - Giants of Brede

Tangye Triple Expansion Steam Water Pumping Engine

A collection of heritage water pumping engines dating from 1889 and extensively restored. They depict the development of pumping technology through the steam period and into the diesel and electrical eras. The collection is complemented by a comprehensive range of flow and water level recording instruments showing the progression from weight driven mechanisms to examples of clockwork and electrically powered units. The entire heritage experience is accommodated within the original (now listed) engine houses displaying traditional Victorian and Art Deco architecture. The whole experience offers wide educational opportunities and an appreciation of British Engineering at its best.
