TAP

TAP, Temporary Arts Project (previously known as CoExist) is an independent artist led project space sited in a Victorian water works building that has been converted into artists studios, an exhibition space and screening room.

Our core aim is to provide a research space for artists to develop through exploration with the freedom to take risks and push the boundaries of their practice. We are committed to working with dynamic artists who want to test the limits of current art practice.

We work with invited guest curators and collaborators to produce a programme of events including artist talks, workshops and off site projects.

External projects have included SIDESHOW, for Village Green festival 2009, an ambitious exhibition in a circus tent and more recently, a two year site specific project called ARTSIDE (www.artside.org.uk), in which saw art works and actions integrated into the high street, turning Southend town centre into an art platform showcasing local, national and international artists.

Based in Southend-on-Sea, TAP is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2008 by Amy McKenny and Emma Emmerton.

Andro Semeiko || Only Words Can Tell You How I Feel

  • 31 March — 27 April 2014 *on now

Exhibition opening: Saturday 29 March at 5pm

Exhibition continues: Monday 31 March to Sunday 27 April

You are warmly invited to TAP’s ONSITE Residency Solo Exhibition, Only Words Can Tell You How I Feel, with Andro Semeiko, as selected by Andrew Hunt and Mike Nelson.

Only Words Can Tell You How I Feel is the culmination of Andro Semeiko’s month long residency at TAP. The exhibition is a multi-layered display of histories, events, stories and memories. It delves into the past of TAP and its surrounding area, conflating fact and fiction, which produces rich and compelling narratives.

Semeiko has collaborated closely with the team at TAP, the studio artists and its wider community to give a unique, site responsive dramatisation. Semeiko’s works are interwoven with text by Amy McKenny and Tom Morton; McKenny will reinterpret TAP’s collective voice whilst Morton’s text is an audio recording chronicling a journey of creative thought using the setting of Ray Bradbury’s 'The One Who Waits' as a reference point.

Please join us for this amalgamation of painting, text and sound from 5pm where you can enjoy Semeiko’s work with the accompaniment of delicious food and refreshments.
