The Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal in the United Kingdom, hearing civil (non-criminal) appeals from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and criminal appeals from England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Cases that are heard here revolve around points of law of significant public importance, and are nearly always open to the public. The Court is the new home of the 'Law Lords', situated in the historic Middlesex Guildhall building on Parliament Square. An exhibition and cafe area help offer a warm welcome to students, prospective lawyers, and all those interested in the interpretation and development of law.
