The Record Office collects,preserves and makes available to everyone historical records relating to Bath. These records include documents from the 12th century to the present day, reflecting all aspects of life in Bath.
We welcome all visitors, whatever their area of research. We hold a huge range of sources for family history, house history, and the local history of Bath, as well as for wider academic research.
The entire collection of this Record Office is a Designated Collection of national importance.

The records held by Bath Record Office occupy over a mile of shelving. They include documents from the 12th century to the present day, reflecting all aspects of life in Bath and its development as a World Heritage city. Among the records are maps, deeds, photographs, and the archives of local businesses, clubs, societies and private individuals, as well as official and administrative records of Bath City Council and other institutions and organisations such as hospitals, schools, Board of Guardians, Quarter and Petty Sessions. Microfiche copies of records held elsewhere, such as parish registers for churches in Bath and the surrounding district, are also available.
