Nordic Giants
Golden Voice presents Nordic Giants
Think Sigur Ros meets Quentin Tarantino” Shorts International
Brighton’s post-rock duo Nordic Giants smashed onto the music scene little over a year ago. Influenced by the likes of Sigur Ros, Massive Attack and Cinematic Orchestra, the band have already shared the stage with Ratatat, Mogwai and headlined The World Premiere of ‘The Blot Symphony’, an inspirational visual art piece created by Ralph Steadman.
Hidden behind feathered masks and effortlessly changing between instruments, the duo performs live original soundtracks to a backdrop of award winning short films (Provided by Shorts International). From dreamy ambient swells, epic builds and huge moments of power to a combination of dark, funny and beautiful short films, which can bring tears, smiles and actually scare you at times.
Imagine the visual story telling of a cinema experience mixed with the raw energy and passion of a live gig- and you’ve hit the nail on the head!

Cold Specks
Metropolis presents Cold Specks
Supporting the release of her debut album, 'I Predict a Grateful Expulsion' released through Mute Records, Canadian Singer Songwriter Cold Specks aka Al Spx brings her 'doom soul' sensation to Hoxton Hall this June.
Cold Specks is songwriter and vocalist Al Spx from Etobicoke, Canada, who now lives in London. The band’s name is taken from a line in James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’:
"Born all in the dark wormy earth, cold specks of fire, evil, lights shining in the darkness".
Describing her sound as ‘Doom Soul’, Cold Specks’ music is steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South. No wonder then that Al cites the Lomax Field Recordings and James Carr as influences along with Bill Callahan and Tom Waits. With a voice that evokes the ‘spirit feel’ of Mahalia Jackson and the visceral tones of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Cold Specks’ sparse arrangements and chaingang rhythms stop you dead in your tracks.
