Battlefront Maps at Caterham Valley Library

  • 17 June 2015 7:30-8:45pm

When the British Expeditionary Force first landed in France and Belgium it used small scale maps already available to the General Staff. As the fighting developed into trench warfare, larger scale maps were required to pinpoint enemy positions, plan attacks and to range guns accurately on specific targets.

Andrew Robertshaw, Director of the Royal Logistic Corps Museum in Camberley, Surrey, will look at the development of trench maps and aerial photography from 1914-18. He will explain First World War map references and offer tips on how to use maps effectively when visiting battlefields.
