Open by appointment the Community Heritage Access Centre houses the collection of the previous Museum of South Somerset. Major collections include gloving, firearms, textile and archaeology.

First World War in Yeovil

To commemorate the centenary of The First World War, a talk relating to life in Yeovil between 1914 and 1918 will be given by Heritage Information Assistant Joseph Lewis.

The talk has been produced in partnership with the Imperial War Museum and funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The talk is free of charge and refreshments will be provided.

There is also an opportunity to bring any items, photographs or stories you may have relating to The First World War to be recorded.

Heritage Open Days 2014: Community Heritage Access Centre

  • 13 September 2014

CHAC is a storage facility holding over 25,000 objects and photographs concerning Yeovil and South Somerset's history. It is usually only open Monday - Friday by appointment but on 13th September 2014 between 10.00 and 15.00, visitors can just pop in when they wish to. You can see, amongst other things, the Westland Roman Villa Mosaic, Petter's Engines, the Angel Inn Statue and panel, gloving equipment and gloves, riot jugs and paintings. Staff will be in each room to answer questions about what you see.
