Heritage Open Days: Farnham Maltings
- 10 — 12 September 2015
The Farnham Maltings was saved from demolition in 1969 by the people of Farnham, who raised £30,000 to buy it from the then owners Courages. The restored Grade II listed buildings are now home to a thriving and lively arts and community centre which is the focus of much of Farnham's cultural life. The earliest records of the site, in the mid 18th century, show it to have been a tannery, a hundred years later it became a maltings and brewery.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday there is free access to public area but access to individual rooms will be dependent on bookings - check the room booking board at the box office on the day.
There will be an exhibition by the Farnham Hoppers in the Foyer, Thur and Fri from 1000.
On Friday at 1100 in the Cellar Bar, there will be talks by local hop growers Bill Biddell (Hampton Estates) and Rupert Thompson (Hogs Back Brewery). No advance booking required.
On Saturday between 1330 and 1630, the Maltings will host Pop-up Craft for families - drop-in activities using clay to explore the theme of hops.
Also on Saturday onwards during Maltings opening hours, there will be an exhibition in the Long Kiln room on the work of the local architectural firm of A.J. Stedman, founded in 1895, later L.R. Stedman and now Stedman Blower. Exhibition continues for 2 weeks.
