The wanton destruction of projectors and related professional film equipment prompted in 1978, a few like minded preservationists to form The Projected Picture Trust (PPT). The aims were to not only locate the equipment being destroyed, but to renovate, preserve and exhibit it for the enjoyment of the public. In other words, they wanted to preserve the magic of cinema.

The PPT, has a base at Dean Clough Mills, Halifax where the majority of the equipment is stored with displays across the country.

Cinema Technology

The PPT houses a range of cinema technology both domestic and professional use. This ranges from 8mm right the way through to 70mm projectors and associated equipment.

Explore IOU’s gallery and workshop, currently in development and due to be open in Spring 2016.See IOU’s wealth of intriguing props, costumes and objects from shows and art installations spanning nearly forty years. Explore magical virtual worlds using the latest 3D headsets. Find out more about the new galleries spaces and what will be on offer once they open to the public in Spring 2016. IOU is a producing organisation with 38 years’ experience making original work across art forms including sculpture, music, theatre, interactive digital works and virtual worlds. IOU creates original and unpredictable art works to engage audiences and artists to change perspectives and share in curiosity and wonder. We create immersive work locally and nationally for both the indoor and outdoor sectors, in established and non-traditional arts spaces.

Heritage Open Days: Cinema - Behind the screens

The Projected Picture Trust collection consists of cinema projectors from the early years up to the present day. Of particular interest are Kalee ones made by Kershaws of Leeds. We also have on site a private viewing cinema where visitors can see rare films also held in our collection.
