Pin-Up Art

Gallery@: Pin-Up Art by Fiona Stephenson

4 April — 7 June 2013 *on now

This saucy selection of artwork provides a nostalgic visit to the glamour of the American 40's, 50's and 60's pin-up era. As the trademark story goes, the women are sexy but not sleazy, and often find themselves in very comic situations. The effect, however, should be joyful as there's little room for modern cynicism in pin-up art.

POP!

POP! DESIGN • CULTURE • FASHION

4 April — 7 June 2013 *on now

From the poodle skirts and embellished leathers of the rockers, the cool styling of the Mods, the high baroque of Psychedelia and the kitsch glamour of 1970’s retro, POP! celebrates the time when British culture first captivated the world.

The influence of pop culture is showcased through furniture, graphic design, original posters, record covers and packaging by artists, such as Andy Warhol and Peter Blake, as well as the work of fashion designers, such as Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood. Highlights include items from Elton John’s personal wardrobe; purple flairs worn by Donovan; and Mary Quant’s early modernist pop art fashions.
