photo montage of people with inherited objects

What is Left?

  • 6 February — 6 March 2015 *on now

Roshana and Ellie have been travelling around the country, photographing 50 people in their own homes with an object they have inherited from someone who has died.

Hand-printed photographs, bespoke viewing chairs, recorded interviews and transcribed booklets combine in this intimately powerful exhibition that invites you to take part in a conversation with people lost, objects gained and the continuing relationship between them.

The project features portraits of local people from South Yorkshire and further afield, sharing memories that are sometimes funny, often poignant, and which collectively present an incredible national portrait of our varying attitudes towards grief, memory, inheritance and loss.

Matisse: Drawing with Scissors. Late Works 1950-1954

  • 14 February — 14 March 2015 *on now

The French painter, sculptor and designer Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. His vibrant works are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and luminosity of colour and his spectacular paper cut-outs were his final triumph.

Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, a Hayward Touring exhibition from the Southbank Centre, features 35 posthumous prints of the famous cut-outs that he produced in the last four years of his life, when confined to his bed.

It includes many of his iconic images, such as The Snail and the Blue Nudes. A Hayward Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London.

From the ‘Votes for Women’ campaign of the early Twentieth Century to the recent Occupy movements, the poster has been used to mobilise, educate and organise. Bringing together around seventy posters from the V&A’s collection, A World to Win: Posters of Protest and Revolution looks at the defining features of protest graphics, showcasing the work of diverse artists, graphic designers and print collectives.

It includes important new acquisitions, for example Rene Mederos’s poster celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, and includes loans from the Linen Hall Library in Belfast.
