At DIG! you will become an Archaeological Detective, and find out for yourself what York was really like through the ages, from Roman times to the present day.

You will get the chance to excavate objects from the streets of York and then decide what they are, what they are made from, and why they got there.

On your journey as an Archaeological Detective you will find out about the work of the many different types of Archaeologists, including field archaeologists, researches, curators, and conservators.

You will also have the chance to meet real archaeologists and talk to them about their work, see and handle artefacts from York and view recent exciting discoveries.

It's all about having a go, finding out, and making your own mind up about what happened in the past, so what are you waiting for... GO AND DIG!!!!!

To ensure that every visitor can enjoy all that DIG has to offer, it will be necessary to limit the number of people into the attraction at one time. All visitors are advised to book their visit by calling into either DIG or JORVIK or alternatively calling our pre-booking line on 01904 615505.

Little Diggers

Calling all very young archaeologists! Little Diggers is for all those who like to dig, delve and discover for themselves all about objects and stories from the past.
Our new early years area is aimed at children aged 2 – 5 years, with lots of fun resources including dressing up, puppets, storybooks and games.
