Myths and Mysteries of the First World War
- 13 May 2015 7:30-8:45pm
The terrible toll of death and suffering during the war created an atmosphere in which myths and mysteries flourished in the minds of front-line soldiers, civilians and the media. Using the latest evidence from declassified documents, Leonard James examines enigmatic stories such as the Angel of Mons, the Lusitania’s sealed cargo, secret evidence from the trial of Nurse Edith Cavell and the haunted U-boat.
This is part of Surrey Libraries’ War and Words programme of commemorative events for the First World War Centenary.
Tickets, including refreshments, £5.00 until 31 August, thereafter £6.00.
