Reference and Local Studies department of Calderdale Central Library. We offer a wide range of reference, information, local studies and family history material and answer enquiries in person, by phone and by e-mail. We have computers for public use and space for quiet study. The department maintains a local history website, www.weavertoweb.org as well as What's On in Calderdale and Calderdale Clubs and Societies webpages. We hold events for the public and for local history societies and participate in projects which develop access to and further interest in local and family history in the area.

Admission charges

Entry to the library is free. Library computers are free for a minimum of 70 minutes to library members. Library membership is free - recent ID showing address will be required to join.

Fresh in My Memory Always

Come and join us, 12.30 to 1.30, in meeting room 1 to hear the story of Halifax man Joseph Garvey, who served in the First World War, was captured and spent several years as a prisoner of war in Germany. The speaker is Joseph's grandson. As this is a lunchtime event, you are welcome to bring your lunch with you. Booking is advisable and opens on 11th October. Subject to availability, you will, however, be able simply to turn up on the day. Contact 01422 392631.
