Jamaica Hidden Histories: Fashion Archive Display

  • 11 — 27 September 2014 *on now

Fashion Archive display - a photographic/video display of fashion business archives drawings and photographs produced when Jamaican born designer, Lorna Holder, was Head of Young Fashion at Davies & Field from 1979-1986.

The backdrop for this 1980s profile is the research into the ‘hidden history’ of the impressive Rich Mix building, which was Davies & Field, one of the UK’s largest dress manufacturing companies. The videos include recent interviews by the Sample Pattern Cutters who worked with Lorna over 27 years ago, sharing their experiences in working in the building and in the commercial fashion industry. At Davies & Field, Lorna created designs for major chain stores such as Littlewoods, Etam, Berkertex and Lady at Lord John. She designed the Justine, young fashion, range for Littlewoods catalogue and created one of the first celebrity fashion endorsements in a main stream catalogue for the Olympian swimmer Sharon Davies.

The Fashion Archive display is part of the Jamaican Hidden Histories project by Full Spectrum Productions, supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, and in collaboration with Rich Mix.
