Brighton Science Festival returns to prove there's a lot more to science than test tubes and prime numbers. Prepare to unleash your curiosity as science comes roaring out of the lab and into the city of Brighton & Hove for a month of hands-on demonstrations, engaging talks and live experiments.

Put aside any preconceptions you may have about science – every part of the Brighton Science Festival programme will challenge people's perceptions about what science is and who can do it. Roll up your sleeves and get stuck in – there are over 70 events to choose from. For full listings and to book tickets visit www.brightonscience.com.

Pocket Science Funfair Brighton

Pocket Science Funfair

  • 18 August 2017 10:30am-4:30pm

The Pocket Science Funfair comes to Brighton combining all the fun of the fair with the shock and surprise of science. Author, actor and science presenter Richard Robinson brings his science roadshow to The Synergy Centre on Friday 18th August.

This all-day event offers children a chance to get hands-on with an array of games, activities and workshops – all designed to get them asking the same question: “why?”. A team of supervisors will be helping Richard to stoke their curiosity, provide some answers and make them laugh.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter we're adding a touch of movie magic to this month’s event. As well as investigating sound and special effects, we’ll also be moving objects without touching them, using electrostatic energy. You can manipulate another force of nature – gravity – to help your quidditch target practice.

Richard will also be demonstrating science tricks to explain some of the science fiction of Star Wars, another movie enjoying an anniversary this year.
