Housed in a rare 19th Century corrugated iron prefabricated building, the Cottage Museum tells the fascinating story of the development of Woodhall Spa from its Victorian beginnings through to modern times.
Explore the small and unique Cottage Museum which is packed with intriguing stories and exciting displays about Woodhall Spa and the Wield family who lived in the building from 1887 until the 1960’s.
Relax in the Wield family living room and play period games, investigate fascinating facts about the rapid development of Woodhall into a fashionable place to visit and discover what Woodhall looked like in times gone by watching our ‘Magic Lantern Show’. The Museum includes displays relating to recent times and hosts a temporary exhibition programme.
The Museum is a registered charity run by volunteers. It has been open for over 26 years and is dedicated to preserving, displaying and promoting the heritage of Woodhall Spa from its beginnings to the present day.
The 2014 season begins on April 18th when the Museum opens its doors to visitors. We have a lively and diverse programme of events planned for 2014 and we look forward very much to welcoming you to our much loved Museum.
The re-development, refurbishment and activities at the Museum have been supported primarily by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Small display of memorabilia in the Wartime Woodhall exhibition

Wartime Woodhall 1914-18

  • 4 — 31 August 2014 *on now

Names from War memorials at Woodhall Spa, Kirkstead, Martindales and Roughton are featured in the exhibition alongside a small selection of personal items and memorabilia connected with the period of the First World War.

Volunteers at the Cottage Museum are very keen to add to the information they already hold about this important event and the people who were involved.

The Museum is delighted that some visitors have already passed on information concerning some of the soldiers commemorated on the War memorials, which will help build up the Archive and provide a valuable local resource for the future.

The current exhibition will run until the end of August when it will be changed to focus on everyday life in Woodhall Spa during the first few months of the First World War.
The new display will open on the 3rd September and will include a brand new digital presentation in addition to images of Woodhall Spa during this period.

If you have any information, pictures or memorabilia which you feel may be of interest and would like to share, then please do contact the Museum on 01526 353775 or info@cottagemuseum.co.uk
