Riverside Studios aims to be London’s pre-eminent space for risk, inspiration and creative opportunity in the arts, in a setting which is energetic, internationalist and friendly.
Riverside Studios has been one of the most important British venues for international arts since it opened in 1978. It has consistently played host to some of the greatest names in international performance, including Samuel Beckett, Dario Fo, the Berliner Ensemble, the Maly Theatre of St.Petersburg and Tadeusz Kantor. In recent years the Studios have staged productions by Peter Brook, Robert Lepage, Complicite, Shared Experience, The Wooster Group and La Fura Dels Baus. Despite these illustrious names, Riverside is also a supportive and nourishing environment for small-scale work, trying out new ideas and arts activity by and for people of all backgrounds.
Riverside has a varied programme of performance, cinema and exhibitions, and considers any work within the context of the building's artistic policy. The Gallery runs the length of our Café Bar wall and is approximately 20 metres of hanging space.
