The Baptist Historical Society

Founded in 1908, the Society seeks to advance awareness of Baptist history and principles by promoting lectures, summer schools and publications; by offering an advice and information service and by bringing heritage issues to the attention of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and its member churches.

Membership of the Society embraces a wide range of interests including ministers and church leaders, church members, tutors and lecturers, local church historians as well as institutions such as universities, libraries and theological colleges.

One important aim of the Society is to make widely available material about Baptist history written by Baptists. There is a constant need to consider the way in which Baptist principles have been rooted in practice in the lives of women and men. One way this is achieved is through the Quarterly magazine and another through our range of publications. Seven volumes of Transactions and thirty-six volumes of the Baptist Quarterly with cumulative indices have been published.
